Ramadhan is a sacred month of reflection, restraint, and renewal. Yet at our mosques, waste remains a visible challenge — from excess food to single-use plastics. As Allah reminds us, “Indeed, He does not love the wasteful” (Qur’an 7:31). Singapore too faces a pressing waste crisis, with Pulau Semakau — our only landfill — projected to be completely filled by 2035.
Zero-Waste Ramadhan is our collective response: weaving sustainability into worship, community, and legacy.
🌱 Our Pilot Efforts
At Masjid Alkaff Upper Serangoon and Masjid Islah, we are testing practical, faith-driven solutions:
1️⃣ Food Waste to Fertiliser — turning surplus food into compost for community gardens.
2️⃣ Plastic Waste to Prayer — upcycling plastics into tasbih beads, transforming disposables into devotion.
🌍 Our Aspiration
By 2030, we aim to scale these efforts across all 72 mosques in Singapore, embedding sustainability into the rhythm of Ramadhan nationwide.
✨ More Than Waste Reduction
This journey is not only about cutting waste. It is about faith and community for our future generations.
Zero-Waste Ramadhan is where worship meets responsibility, and where devotion becomes a gift to tomorrow.
